Every year I take on a select few schools who want to offer their families specialty portraits. I call them that because I spend (much) more time with each child than traditional school photographers, my backdrops are simple (no cheesy outer space scenes here) and my experience as a child photographer gives me a unique perspective when I'm working in a school environment. All this lends itself to photographs that are more portrait than school picture. I only take a few schools because of the time commitment involved—this isn't purely a volume proposition for me—I want to provide parents with pictures they actually want to display in their homes, not just collect out of obligation. Here is an example of some of the adorable expressions I captured last week at a nursery school I've had the pleasure of working with for the last four years—these kids range in age from two to five years old.
